Hi All,

I was researching this subject and could not find an answer in NCKA’s site (maybe I missed it or its too basic and no one wants to write about it).  I thought I share this with all other newbs like myself about the “Goop” question.

There are a few different types of Goop products made by Eclectic Products Inc and here’s what I’ve found from their site’s spec sheet…

Goop, “Amazing” Goop, Plumbing Goop, Household Goop, Automotive Goop are all made with the same formula.

Marine Goop, Sports & Outdoor Goop, and Lawn & Garden Goop are made of the same formula.

The only differences between the two groups are as followed…

1) Marine Goop group has UV protection built in, lesser tensile strength “Tensile strength 3500 lb/in2 (ASTM D-412)”, and VOC 498 gram/liter.

2) Amazing Goop group no UV protection (although the company and the package said to paint over it to protect it from UV ray), has higher tensile strength “Tensile strength 3800 lb/in2 (ASTM D-412)”, and a VOC 476 gram/liter.  Other than that, both groups have the same formula!

VOC =  "volatile organic compounds". The solvents and other compounds that evaporate into the air and contribute to the formation of smog (ozone).

Tensile strength = maximum load that a material can support without fracture when being stretched, divided by the original cross-sectional area of the material.

In conclusion, most of us yakers who use the Goop mainly for sealing or sticking transducer to the haul(either direct or pool noodle technique and there’s no direct sunlight to “yellow” the Goop), the good old fashion “Amazing” Goop (which you can pick up at any of your local hardware store) would work just fine.

I actually found the “Amazing” Goop at my local Home Depot for $3.99 compared to Marine Goop at Ace Hardware for $6.99.  Take a guess at which one I picked up!

I hope this helps to clarify any confusion.

Pete

Any "Goops" you mentioned above would work fine for glueing the transducer to the inside of the kayak hull.  Go for the cheapest one of the above!

I've actually wondered if there was any difference but was too lazy to run down the info, so

Thanks for putting it out there
