Ok, so first off I love the way my baidarka feels...great rod, caught me a ton of fish. I've had it a year and some. BUT:

1. within a day of having it the butt end plug fell out- no biggie i replaced that and glued in a rubber cork piece
2. yesterday while riggin up, the solder on one of the eyes just gives way-- the little ring falling into my hands. I checked the others, and on another- F'ing solder point was crap- off it came in my hands.
So, now i'm soldering the f'ing eyes back together...I'm getting pretty tired of repairing this nearly new rod.

There's no corrosion or anything on this rod, its been totally babied...

WTF?

Get ahold of a manufacture's rep, they ought to replace it if they're serious about producing quality products,

No it doesn't sound harsh to me,

Trevela vs Baidarka:  I have both and will agree that the Trevela is of much better quality.  However, I personally think the Baidarka is a better workhorse for the $$ and has a better feel on 4oz+ jiggs.  The leash ring on the Baidarka is a plus as well.  I  too had the butt cap problem but you seem to have a fix on that.  Never had a problem with the soldering..I'll check em out when I get home.  Thanks for the info SteveS

That sucks. I have two and have had no issues with either. Like others said send it back and I am sure they will fix or replace. And no you have every right to be pissed.

Now off to the garage to look at my rods

If this is true they should give you a refund then you can go out and get something you trust. Sure glad you found out now and not when you have a big dino on. Okuma makes damn good spinning reels but I haven't been impressed with anything else they make.

I replaced one of the guides on Sackyak's Baidarka this year. Same problem with the ring separating from the frame. The guides are fairly low quality for a rod in that price range. In addition, there have been several blank failures.  I know a lot of guys like them but there are better made rods at the same cost, IMO. The Trevala is better constructed but I don't like them either. :-( If you get yourself a Calstar or Seeker you won't have to worry about your rod failing when you have the fish of a lifetime on and they are made in America.

Steve

One last thing, I would replace the guide instead of soldering the ring back on. The Rod Rack in Hayward carries guides which are very similar to the Baidarka guide but much metter quality.
