For all the crazy people!  :smt104  Art and I are going to launch from Alviso slough to do a little exploring and hopefully some fishing. Anyone else want to join in the fun?

Yeehaw!  I was hoping you'd decide to do this.  I'll be there with my buddy Tom paddling front.  What are the details?

Art should be able to fill in the blanks. I don't know what time we are launching but we will probably need to head in around 2:30-3:00 to avoid the minus tide. I am guessing a 9-10 launch, most likely 9.

Art can you kick down the directions? Directions to the Alviso Slough Park are on this page:

http://www.parkhere.org/channel/0,4770,chid%253D16350%2526sid%253D12761,00.html

I am guessing that will get you in the general area of the launch.

As this will be my first time out for sturgeon, how much of what type of bait do you need per rod?

I am no expert but I went through 1/2 # of grass shrimp last time I went out.
If you use ghost/mud shrimp most people get a dozen of each/either. Bait is pretty expensive, last time I went I dropped $20 on bait for Art and I. That was a pound of grass and 2 dozen ghost shrimp IIRC.

I was thinking of using a combo of grass and eel this time.

Joel can you pick me up 1/2 a pound of grass? I will see if anyone close to me has eel.

Bait, I can pick up whatever is needed.  PM me with a shrimp order.  Bill, the only place I think has eel is Laine's which is about 3 blocks from the launch.  Its not a regular baitshop so I'm not sure what their hours are.

I'll post a map when I have more free time, its not that hard to find though.

I'd like to thank the other crazies in the group for joining in on this exploratory trip.  Part of the reason I bought a yak was to get to places other people couldn't, hopefully it pays off.

BTW What happened to Dave?

And 9:00 sounds good to me.  I might be there a little early though, I've been told I take too long getting rigged up :smt003

Count me in.

Coyote Bait & Tackle had ghost shrimp a few weeks ago.  They open at 7am Saturdays, so I'll be stopping by before heading up to Alviso.  Anyone want me to pick some up?

Sounds like everyone is trying to stop by a bait shop.  I need bait for 2 ... sounds like I need 1# of grass and 2 dozen ghosts.  If someone can pick some up before Saturday morning, please do and let me know.  Otherwise, I'll be making a bait run Saturday morning to Ly's or Laine's depending on who has what.   Thanks.

Hey Guys here is the directions to the Park I'll include a map as well.  See you saturday  The blue star is where laine's bait shop is located.   996 Elizabeth St.

How to Get There

The Alviso Marina County Park is located at:

   Mill Street, Alviso
You can reach the park office at (408) 262-6980

From Highway 880 take Highway 237 (Alviso-Milpitas Road) west, turn right on No. First Street, right on Hope Street and left on Mill Street.

From Highway 101, take Highway 237 (Mt. View-Alviso Road) east, turn left on Gold Street (Lafayette), follow left on Elizabeth Street, right on Hope Street, left on Mill Street.

Fishing report from chronicle today Feb 3

Tom Laine at Laine's Bait (408-262-0349) strongly recommends anchoring near Buoy 16, in 10 feet of water, or between buoys 8 and 20, 7 feet of water, and then down toward the Towers, maybe 60-70 yards west of the channel, in 8 feet of bay. No bait seems hotter than any other, but grass shrimp, mud shrimp and herring top the popularity list .
