Nope. I pay for Coastside because they offer a wealth of political information which I can then post over here. As far as I see it, many Coastsiders work for our fishing rights, while NCKAers (for the most part) don't.

If that were to change, I would be willing to pay.

Andrew, what you're saying doesn't make sense. You say "many" Coastsiders work for fishing rights but "most" NCKAers don't. How can you say that with certainty? People don't have to post their views just to verify to anyone what they're doing on their own. NCKA has a political forum available for anyone interested, but Coastside won't give access (without paying) to view the non-political forums. Still, I'm against paying for access because of my experience with another outfit locally.

Not to change the direction of this thread, but the NCKA attendance at the last MLPA meeting was a clear reflection of the NCKA membership's involvement in this fight.

I stand by my statement. And if you don't fall under the "most" category, then that's great! But a great many here do fall into that category of posting and reading fishing reports while skipping over the political forums, which, let's face it, are WAY down at the bottom of the page.

I feel that Coastside should make their political pages free to view and post, and I feel NCKA should do the same if it were to switch to a pay site.

This is an amazing group that has taught me a lot.  I would happily pay for the privilege.  We are TOO free with the information being handed out, IMHO, and a small annual fee (and a minimum number of posts) might clear out some of the PB lurkers who are no doubt using our free intel.  Either that or we start putting  up phony misdirection posts about the amazing rainbow trout bite going on at the Farallones right now...

AOTY funds as well as ad revenue all support the running of this site. I voted no cause I am not a fan of pay for play sites.

If I can make it easy to admin I might consider an AOTY participants only section but right now I have enough trouble keeping up with AOTY payments and stickers.  :smt003

I interpret the above as case closed regarding "Pay to Play". As far as a NCKA Fishing Rights Fund I'm all for it, but I think it's important to remember that the more people on our side who actually show up at these MLPA meetings the better. To paraphrase Sean, "Going to the meetings is an investment in our future ability to continue to fish". Bluekayak, everytime you post about this I feel your anguish. If you would like a ride to the upcoming meeting feel free to PM me. I would be happy to pick you up. You do not need to get up there & speak. I know I feel great about pledging to go and even if they cancel or postpone the meeting I will be going in the future whenever they have it. As I stated before, in your deleted thread, Stand Up For Your Fishing Rights=No More Guilty Conscience. jim

Said with all due respect. I am only trying to protect my fishing rights trying not to step on any other fishermen's toes in the process.

I stumbled onto this site awhile back randomly surfing for kayak fishing info.

Isn't the web great for free info!

What I came upon at the time was an incredible library of experience and camaraderie, illustrated with fantastic almost mythical photographic evidence of a sport that I had just started to begin.

I clearly recall my first reads being that of a NCKA'er named Chef (RIP) and how you guys rallied and fished and were there for him when times were rough.

I thought "what a great bunch - met online - hung out on the water - caught fish (or not)
partied, laughed, cried, all in the name of kayak fishing"

I had to join up, just to be a part of this great group.

Well, over time, busy schedule, first new baby and all - I hardly got to paddle much.

But when I did I tried to post something.

Even went to my first NCKA event, Eric's FW Delta scorcher.

I plan on getting out more, and contributing more, but the reality for me is, well you know the story...

So although I'm guilty of gathering as much knowledge as I can from this cool site, it's mostly just to prepare myself for a fun and safe time OTW, hell - I rarely even keep a fish.

I just don't know if paying a fee is going to help people feel better about sharing their knowledge.

I don't belong to any other online social network, and have always been proud that this one is so meaningful to me - I think that all the rest are just BS.

I wish I lived closer to the ocean :fish

Thanks,
Novofish - Tony

I see it as kind of a public service all the safety information that is available on this site, if it were pay-for-play, that information would not be disseminated as widely.  Though there are other kayak fishing sites on the net, they are not geared towards the nor-cal ocean and our ocean is considerably less forgiving than most other places. :whip2:
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee

Like giving M2 or whoever some sort of backup or getting something better organized like I believe they did down south, lot of good it did them

I don't want gas money or pats on the back. I want us to flood the place at the August meeting, so that nobody  else can get seats. There have been quite a few weekday fishing reports lately, and I hope to see those same people at this meeting.

I too voted no. For some reason the book Animal Farm keeps coming to mind.

I remember back in the day when we were all here to help everyone learn new techniques and find new places to fish. Anyway, that's just my two cents (or maybe scents since my idea may stink).

Like when they passed the damn thing in the first place, who knew about it besides the people who did it?

The people of California voted for it.  It wasn't a secret.

I would pay the max because to me this site is priceless and cozy. Just my view.
The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan
