For you crabbers, you might want to start saving your fish carcasses.
Dungeness Crab season opens on November 5th (I think?)

Regs state:  OPEN SEASON (Excl Del Norte, Humbolt & Mendocino Cntys):  "From the Saturday preceding the second Tuesday in November through June 30th"

So I interpret that as the Saturday between the first and second Tuesday's in November.  Sometimes the DFG is just friggin lame.

Friggin lame alright!.....With all of the money they make on licenses, tags, and stamps.... you'd think the DFG would be able to afford a calendar. :smt098

That type of language was ok when they didn't have word processors and/or change the regs every year.  Nowadays its just plain lame.

I'm in.  Already got a bucket-full of carcass :smt019 in the freezer ready to go.

When I don't have left overs, I buy whole catfish heads from the Chinese markets.  They are relatively cheap, and they work great.  Use a whole head for nets/cages, no mess.  I usually buy them for about $2 per lb.  I also crushed them, and use them in the crab snares.  Messy though.  :tom

Oops, made a mistake.  It would be crazy for me to pay $2 a pound for catfish heads.  :smt017  They are usually only 29 to 39 cents a pound, but maybe Sean will deep freeze a few Mendo catfish heads, and UPS them to us on dry ice.  :cold

Earlier this year, Stuart and I caught limits of dungies and rock crabs using fresh salmon carcasses that were just sitting in a dumpster near HMB's fish cleaning station.  I brought frozen rockfish carcasses, but I knew that salmon was better since it has a higher oil and fat content which crabs prefer.

I will tell you my secret, opps it's not a secret anymore atleast for you guys..I used to use a Sardines in the can or Salmon...just poke a few holes in to it and put inside the crab bait with a squid... these work really good because the smell and oil coming from inside the can...
