I thought this would an interesting and fun thread considering the troubles I have with yak storage....

Anyway, my boat a T-13

I have NO garage, I live near the ocean and its always wet and salty. For me leaving my yak in the sun covered with a tarp is my LAST option...

We have a studio in the back of our house we used to rent out, its tiny, now I screen print tee's and towels back there.... Anyay there a nice covered area theat connects to a out door surf style bathroom...

as you can see, i stuffed my yak in there, out of the sun, out of the elements..

yours?? Post pics too!!

Side of the house, leaning on their sides against the fence.  I'm working on making a shade for them out of that reed fencing stuff.

Has anyone seen one cracked or otherwise ruined from the elements?  I have an old Scupper Pro that lived outside for years previously and seems no worse for the wear.

Nice job Porky!
I once used a pulley system to store a 14' kayak vertically in an apartment living room. At christmas we put xmas cards in the deck bungies and wrapped it in xmas tree lights.

Has anyone seen one cracked or otherwise ruined from the elements?

Yeah, I've seen some rental boats that were faded and cracked from sun exposure, as well as severely warped from central valley summer cartopping. Some had actual holes cracked out of them. The plastic can get brittle. To be fair, these yaks were BEAT all their lives (and they were not OK models). I think the newer boats have superior plastics to the older models.

I store mine in my "boathouse" under our back deck. I'll try & get a pic up tonight.

Malibu Two - our garages look pretty similar from the pics - circa 1930 here.

I also hang mine from the garage ceiling using a mini pulley system. That way I can lower it directly to the rack of my car when it's time to load or unload it. I control the lowering operation with a prusik knot so that even if I accidentally let go of the lowering ropes, the yak won't fall on the car.

I started putting this up, and then got the idea of the Prusik knot from the following website. However, unlike that site, I didn't use clothesline pulleys, but small marine pulleys instead. I also used 2 single lengths of ropes per end strung through PVC pipe instead of straps for the support bed.

feel free to steal away! Just some extra indoor/outdoor carpet I had laying around. The frame is scrap 2x4's and plywood. The key part are the wheels...I can roll it into my truck, to the lawn for wash down and back into the garage. Key at the end of a long day. I had one of the PVC ones but I noticed some hull deflection on hot days. I get none with the soft/wide carpet. Let me know if you want any measurements, etc (since we have similar boats)

I'll write them down this afternoon and post them. Deflection/warping, basically the boat hull warping due to pressure and/or heat. When the garage gets hot the plastic becomes softer. Thats why most ppl store them upside down or on their side. It can happen by simply resting it (hull down) on the cement floor. Most of the time it pops out but over time it can become perm.
