Does anyone know when the DFG will finalize/publish the 2006 Ocean Regs?  I hope its pretty soon.

I’m very curious what the season will be for Rockfish/lings in 06.  If its like 05, I may breakdown buy a speargun and start doing some cardio workouts.

As far as I know, its supposed to be the same.  No matter what, buy a gun anyways...its fun.  I need to spend more time this winter getting decent at it.

Mine too tight too ...

I got a 7 mm farmer john and outer.  I think it's a size LT.  I figure if Erik has one that's too tight too, we can all upgrade.  You take mine, I take his, and ...

Actually, the farmer john seems to fit, it's just the outer that is too tight around the chest and arms.  I think all this paddling has caused my arms and back to grow!   :smt002

I plan on getting a speargun by this winter as well.  It looks like a blast.

do you think starting with a hawaiian sling is a good idea?

I got a 75 cm Omer for my first gun and its a bit of a learning curve, but not too bad.  Lots of lines to manage, but you get the hang of it.  WAY more potent than a sling.  It was about a $100 at Wallins in SJ.

Bigeyedave was most helpful and patient showing me the basics.  I do great at shooting the fish, I have way more trouble getting my fish off of the spear!

Instead of spending two to four hounded dollars on a new suit, You can always add a little neoprene to the old suit. all it takes is scissors neoprene and neoprene glue. and it comes in colors.  the cost less than $30.00 and time.  (a couple of hours) the glue no more than $10.00 and what ever neoprene cost.  Steels in Oakland will be helpful.

...bradah....that's just my winter fat building up to keep me warm in the winter  :smt002 It's just the mooch way of adapting to different environments.....you see, the rest of the human population harness the warmth with fancy fur coats and the house with the nice comfy fire place.....the mooch specie on the other hand, will mooch till it stores enough fat to get through the winter months.....evolution my friend, is what sets the mooch apart  :smt045

Spearfishing is a blast!!! I have been in a couple of tournaments at Ocean Cove and let me tell you those guys DRILL the fish. After a tournament like that the fish are donated to a local charity for a big fish fry. I am in NO WAY at the caliber of 99% the people participating, but it is still fun.
It will also help you become very relaxed and comfortable in the water, that is, until you see that monster ling for the first time...heart starts pumpin', eyes get big, line up your shot, squeeze the trigger...squeeze it again...try to force it....fish spooks....then you realize as a newbie you forgot to take the safety off!!! Been there, done that..TWICE!!! :smt013
As for a wetsuit, I have a Henderson Gold Core Farmer John. I went with this because of the ease of movement and the flexibility of the entire suit. If your weight fluctuates..8-15 lbs depending on the camping trips ( beer drinking ) then get a hyperstretch suit. This will allow for all the camping trips you want ( beer drinking ) and will fit the same no matter how much you get out.

I'm not too motivated to spearfish while I can just fish from my yak, but once that's shut down I'll be out there.  Spring is also when the landlord is vacationing in hawaii eating baby whales.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.
