Last year I used my Shelton a bunch but found it time consuming. Friday night before the opener I happened to read a post here about fishing shallow 60 feet or less to avoid any barotrauma. I went ahead and did this for the opener and although I didn't pull any big ground/pounder fish like reds/coppers/browns etc I managed a ling, 2 cabbies, and a bunch of decent schoolfish without wasting any time with the descender. Nothings worse than dropping in 90+ feet and feeling a dink on the end of the line. Sometimes nothing's biting shallow though so I'll keep my descender handy for those days. jim

Dude if you are using a leadhead already with swimbaits or fishtraps I did something on the opener that worked very cool. I just took the hook on the leadhead and inserted it through the soft flesh in the lower lip off to the side. Let the fish down and with one quick jerk upwards the fish comes off. No extra rod, no extra tackle. Reel up to make sure its off and continue fishing. Simple ,no extra cost and quick. Shelton has some good ideas and the one he likes most is making money.

Time and date? Did you switch to single hook on your diamond bar so you dont get caught in the rocks more often? Names Craig, :smt044 Grasshopper.
