This is from my dad so it might well be a hoax but it looks pretty real. Here is the text he sent:

"This is a picture of a catfish that a guy recently caught at  Lake  Texoma.  According to the news, he was fishing from the shore with a 20 pound test line. When he realized what a huge fish he had caught, he stayed in the water with it and kept it close to shore with his hands.  He used his cell phone to call a friend and tell him to bring a scale.  The friend got there and the scale topped out at 100 pounds. They took it to the nearby Bait shop and weighed it there. It weighed 121 pounds! Luckily a Game Warden was there and called the Athens  Freshwater  Fisheries  Center and asked them if they wanted the fish. They sent a 'live truck' to the site and brought the fish safely to Athens.  They are getting it ready for the public to view. The paper said that it would be two to three weeks before they'd release into the public tank.. They estimated that the 121 pound catfish was about 27 years old!"

But it's a european wels catfish.  Probably caught in spain or france.  http://www.carpecarpio.com/welscatfish1.html
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

I agree with Josh - that's a wels catfish - native of Europe. They have a tail of an eel rather then the usual "forked tail" of the Channel cat. And the Blue Cat has a regular tail fin.

Big mamas = Daly City meal!

I still don't understand why shore fishing is so popular in Europe - mainly in England. Get a kayak bra....sheeesh  :smt011

Yeah I figured it was a hoax, the whole story sounded to contrite. If it was Texas they would have had the fryer going in no time!

Bill...it was really obvious that the photo was not taken in texas....first of all, the guys don't have the mullet hair style. Second, they both are not wearing knee-high-cut jeans. And the third reason =  they are not wearing the standard NASCAR wife beater t-shirts.

........and lets not forget that there are no nitro flux capacitor powered bass boats in the background  :smt002
