Sean, I had a great time last night. Kudos to Jack for the gumbo. It was off the hook. Yum, yum.

I learned a lot last night from your seminar. Mostly confusion as to all the different apects of steelhead fishing from a kayak in a river system. Long gone are the days when we would drive up to Soames Bar and cast nightcrawlers with a pencil weight in surgical tubing. I am humbled to the point that I feel I know not too much. This is a good thing and trying to a be a student first is a good way to go.I at first thought that my little pamlico 13 sit-inside woulkd be the ticket and it may well be for a slow mover like the lower Russian. Although I really don't need a kayak full of water to deal with.

After the 2 hours were up I felt like we had just touched a few of the important topics and would look forward to more seminars in the future. Thanks again for taking your time to come down from Ukiah to Petaluma. I live in Petaluma so it was no big deal. I am glad it's rainig now and maybe I will get to try some techniques this weekend from Steelhead to  Guerneville.

Well we got two threads going on here but hey, a second round o' thanks is not too much.

Hear, hear! Great information and experience was shared, excellent presentation Sean!

Big thanks go out to the following, too:

Jack - great grub, thanks a bunch! Would you mind sharing the recipe?

Thanks also to ravensblack for the tasty smoked sturgeon - nice citrus and heat finish!

Huge thanks and kudos to the Clavey folks for hosting the clinic.

  And how!!!

Thanks Sean!  Ditto on the food guys, the gumbo, (I think it was more like jumbalaya?) was awesome, and the sturgeon was most excellent.

I felt the most important lesson was reading the water, and the safety aspect.  For new guys like me I think it's real easy to look at AOTY pics and fishing reports and think "I can do that!", not realizing that a few of you just basically invented this type of fishing...

A lot of what you taught us is not exactly intuitive, and some of us would surely suffer dearly trying to learn it the hard way.

So thanks again.

I second that statement!!
Thanks Claveys & Sean for puttin it on us.

Jack~ Best Gumbo I've EVER eaten!

Mike~ Great lemon-aide!

What i learned was~
1) YOU need to be a Real_Kayaker FIRST!
2) YOU need to be looking down river, before EVEN THINKING of tossing a line out(cuz that's where you're bound to end up if....see #3)
3)YOUR 8lb.custom made diamond anchor system dosen't work well.
4) Go buy some CrappieJigs&Bobbers...errrr! floats I mean.

Thank You Claveys for hosting this event and for the Clavey Cash. Thank You Jack, Craig and others for the eats ...yummmmmy! Thank You Sean for sharing your years of detailed information that would be considered "secrets" by other fishermen.
I couldn't wait to put some of the practices to work so it was off to the Russian the next afternoon. Fishing was secondary to exploring the different sections of the river attempting to identify different currents, dangers and "fishy" areas. Even though I have anchored in various rivers in the past I spent a good deal of time practicing deploying and retrieving the anchor.... "pretending" how to react while fighting a fish.
The dozen or more of the boats that had made the drift down from Memorial, three of the boats had caught fish.....one boat landing two and losing another one. For me.....it was another beautiful afternoon on the water!

What is the name/brand of the cool tackle bag/rod holder you showed us for your rig?
