Homemade Knife Jigs!

Armed with a pocket full of change, I am going to be raiding all of the Goodwill stores starting at 5am on Sunday!

Cheap, functional, and recycled!

That's funny. I bought 30 knives 2 weeks ago and got started. They were .10 each except that it was 1/2 off housewares that day so I got them for a nickle each. $1.50 for 30 potential jigs; not too shabby.
I was getting frustrated drilling them. That stainless is a BEOTCH!!!! I guess I will take his advice and drill SLOW next time.
I am going to leave the fancy designs on some of the handles. I don't think a ling will notice the diff.
Mine don't look anywhere near as good as that guys. Practice makes perfect.

I am looking forward to making some of these and catching some monsters when ling season opens. Post some pics if you have them.

Really great work. Those blade baits are nutz!! Only thing I think I'd worry about is weight. They can't be that heavy right? And if they take forever to get down there or get stuck in current they just might be Blue fodder... Anyone have experience with that?

Some of the knives are DEFINITELY harder to drill than others. It seems the best looking jig handles are the hardest to drill. :smt013
The oil is also a MUST.

Nice work.  Time for me to hit the local thrift store. :smt003
I haven't ripped the skin off my fingers in a long time but I figure they will heal before Ling season.
I too don't like donating $8 bucks a pop to the abbys.

That is madness within the madness!

The stainless is a major pain to drill so I think that I will wait to drill the holes until I visit my folks and fire up the end mill.

OK here is the first batch. My local Goodwill was having a 25% off special so they were a whopping .10 cents per knife. I put the tape on one side only. The other side is left polished stainless with a decal eye (see the large one as an example). I just need to decide what kind of hook...siwash, circle?

Looks like I got a project.....
