spicer lake boat camping is awesome. i've done it a few times in my canoe. tomales is an excellent place for it also. i've heard there is a stretch of the eel river that is a 3 day run that is super scenic without all the hard-core rapids.  i to have always wanted to do the lost coast. the estero americano is also a great overnighter. there is a great spot to camp when you get to the coast. there is an area to set up camp that is protected from the wind and there is sandy beach as well as rocky shores.

Boat-In camping in Tomales is one of the coolest things I've ever done.

I would be WAY down with that.  Maybe I could get my sleeves back.

Yep.  I've had my mind on North to South runs from the Cape down along the Lost Coast as well as from the Cove down to Bear Harbor among others.  WAF-dependent!   :smt002

Peteb has a point....carp can really provide a tussle.

Last Spring I was out with my bow, bowfishing for carp.
I shot this big roe-filled gal and she took off....
Stupidly I grabbed the outgoing line with my right hand...
The line took a half-hitch around my ring finger....
And MY GOD that carp practically cinched my finger clean off...
I was running alongside an incredibly steep bank...
My right hand involuntarily pointing at the carp..
My left hand holding to my bow....
Grunting..."Fuck...Fuck...Fuck..."....to myself....
Boy I tell ya.......
That was the LAST I'm ever gunna grab a line like that...

There may be a better chance for a Mother ship for giant squid out of Santa Cruz or Monterey. They have been getting quite a few towards the deep canyon water. It would be a shorter run than the islands and most likely better weather. Be prepared to go deeeeep!. If any of these dream trips come together I am in hopes they will be posted or pm to those who showed interest. I know there are some small charter boats in Santa Cruz that would love to make some cash. They may even throw in a crab pot pull. I can get some names together if any interest. Post or pm me.

I would love to do camping around Tomales Bay.  Trying for some halibut and maybe sturgies out by the mouth.  Certainly having fun with big bat rays along the way.  Plus, it has GREAT secluded beaches to camp.  I wonder if they have Dungies in there...

By the way, my Guide to Sea Kayaking Central and Northern California, has a section on the Lost Coast.  It sounds like amazing scenery, and tons of fish, but there are some tricky spots and long paddles that lead to exposed beaches.  There are a very limited amount of bad-weather emergency beaches.   "Beaches along the cliffs are few, steep and exposed and tough to land on.  There are just no easy ways around the Lost Coast..."  So I would want to go with some seasoned paddlers (not yet my case).  And go in nice weather.

The Channel Islands in SoCal would be awesome.  Or somewhere in Monterey Bay; paddling around the sea otters would be cool.

Lake Sonoma camp-n-fish sounds fun.

Have always wanted to fish the Mattole, Navarro, and other North Coast steelhead water, would be fun to explore with the kayak where possible.  The Eel river 3-day trip mentioned earlier sounds cool.

I'm just looking forward to more kayak fishing in 2009, open to just about anything.......unless it involves the Farallones!!!  :smt009 :smt010

Mutliple-day camping strips were the funnest thing I did this year and I plan on more of those...  more days, more frequently...

Also for a long time I've been meaning to do a 1-way trip from like San Gregorio down to PP.

Lots of places I'd like to go get "lost" for a couple days...  the delta, New Melones, the Forebay.  Just pack up an go!

Also a goal is a striper from the (back of the) surf with a big plug.

I've been wanting to put together a float on the Colorado River from Blythe, CA to Yuma, AZ. I used to live in Yuma and know a few guys that would do it in canoes every year with a Boy Scout Troop. They caught nice LMB all day long, and when they were camping at night you could get into HUGE flathead catfish (30-40lbs) if you used bluegill for bait.

There are no towns for the whole stretch of the river, but the scenery is awesome as you float through a couple different Wildlife Refuges and Lake Cibola.

There is even an outfitter at Martinez Lake, just north of Yuma, that will meet you in Blythe and drive your car down to Martinez Lake for a fee so that you don't have to set up a shuttle. It takes 2-3 days to float from Blythe to Martinez Lake, depending on how many back sloughs you explore (and there are hundreds of them), or 3-4 days to go all the way to Yuma, but that also requires a portage around Imperial Dam.

Just a dream right now, but with some partners in crime I might be motivated to make it happen...  :smt002 :smt003
