Tattoos etc
« on: December 06, 2008, 01:20:46 pm »
Ive seen some on you guys so might as well get a little discussion going.

Fist off I have a few myself. Got my first one when I was 18 and a few more in the years between then and now. And for the last 4 years I have wanted to try laying down some ink myself. So last night I got my wish. A buddy came over and let me try out his gun with some fresh and clean needles/gear. He went over everything with me and I layed down some ink on myself. Call me dumb/stupid but I'd rather do a little shotty first time work on myself rather than screw someone elses skin up. I drew an outline of a star on some transfer paper and applied it to my skin. I was a little nervous at first then I go over that very quickly. I was very happy how good it came out and decided to fill it in with a little color. I chose a blue, After finishing I wish I would have left it just the outline because the blue was a little ark and you could no longer see the dark outline.

I am going to do a few more and if I feel like I can make something of it I am going out and going to purchase a full set up. It's a little pricey but for a passion like I have for kayaking, it is well worth it.

Good for you. I don't have any myself, but it's here to stay for sure. I had a chance to get one in Tahiti years ago, and regret not doing it. Just please don't do anything like this:

I only have one.  I started it last year and have one or two sessions left.  I am about 15 hours into it.  Wanted it for a long time but waited for my midlife crisis to make it happen. :smt003  Some folks at work occasionally give me the stare, but oh well!

I've got three, and got all of them while in the Marine Corps.

I got my first one at a little hole in the wall type of place outside of Memphis, TN called Mouse's. I hadn't planned on getting a tattoo, but my buddies and I were 18, we were at our first school where we weren't treated like we were still in boot camp, and all my friends were getting one...   :party

If you're reading this thread and don't have any tattoos, this is not how to get one. Plan it out first and be sure!  :smt044

Luckily I didn't get anything too crazy that time. It's just a Native American styled design of a shell with some feathers and a bear paw. Not bad, but probably not what I would have chosen today. My second one is on my chest and stays with the Native American theme, a steer skull with feathers. BTW, I'm not Native American, but I was a dumbassed teenaged jarhead!  :smt066 :smt075 :smt066

My last tattoo had the most amount of thought put into it and is therefore the only one I really like to this day. The third tattoo is a black sun on my right calf. If I had them all to do over I think all of my tats would be black work, but such is the judgment of a 18/19 year old Marine.  :smt005

Now that it is 15 years later, I've kind of had the itch to either get one of the early tats covered with black work, or get an entirely new tattoo. However, as my wife has made perfectly clear, that would be a hit to the WAF that I may never recover from.  :spank

I have two.  One is an eagle with a banner that says "ESSAYONS" (Any combat engineers out there?) that I got just after joining the Army.  The other is a gargoyle done in black and grey.  I too have been craving more tats.  I really want a couple on my calves.  Probably a diver's flag on one, and a green man on the other.  I work in a jail, so I see a lot of tattoos.  Some are done well and are true art and some are NOT.  My wife hates tattoos so, I'm having to lobby real hard.  I don't think it would be grounds for divorce, but close.

Hey Sean, that's coming along nicely.   If you want to get some fishing in next time you come back up to Portland to get some more work done let me know.
