I scored a dual-hatch model Scupper Pro over the weekend...  Not the best fishing platform out there but it's mostly a loaner, anyway.

Plenty of room on the dash for a rod holder, but nowhere to put fish or a crate or anything...  I've never seen a dual-hatch model, much less one that's been pimped...  Any ideas on how to go about it?

Or should I leave it as a dedicated non-fishing yak?

that thing is too small for you I think. probably, you should sell it and get something higher volume. since I have a dual hatch t160 I don't need the dual hatch sp, but I'd love to try it out.

Oh I agree, John.  To make a short story long, during my pre-kayak days I picked up a Livingston dinghy as a way to get out on the local waters, and it's been sitting around ever since.  So the other day I found a guy on CL who has spent the last year and a half prepping his sailboat to go cruising around the world, and a Scupper Pro that didn't fit on his boat...  But the dinghy does!

It's for guests and family...  most of whom are normal-sized.

Just something to consider when you are loaning it, the Scupper pro is relatively tippy compared to most other SOT's.

There are some flat surfaces to mount scotty or flush mount rod holders and a fish finder up front.  You may also need to attach some pad eyes in the rear for seat attachment.

I have 2 scupper pros. They are a really fast boat but yes a litttle tippy. I haven't been over, but close. Sell the dual hatch and get a good stable platform if you are going to fish.

I was able to squeeze in 2 flush mounts behind the seat on a SP. had to grind down the lip on the tube a little to make it fit......

Sharky,

I have fished from a scupper classic for years.  I actually have gotted to like the boat more, I like having the 2 large hatches to stow gear in, soft coolers and tackle in the back and then easily store 7 foot rods in the front for landings.  It is a light kayak that moves pretty well through the water.

I installed 2 flush mount rod holders in the front and 2 in the back, I also have one rocket launcher style rod hold in the front, and 2 additional ones in the back.  I installed a fish finder in front of the kayak as well.   They setup works well for me.

I recently purchased a P-13 that I am setting up.  So far all I did was install a fishfinder and scotty mount in front, I will use the scotty triple in front and am still trying to get used to it.  Surprisingly, not as many flat places to mount rod holders on the P-13.  The hatches are much smaller, so I do not know how easy it will be to stow the rods inside for rough landings.  The new P-13 is built much better than my older scupper though.

Hopefully, these pictures will help you out.

Great classic boat, but not good for a lot of newbs.  I will never forget watching bigeyedave's dad getting turtled by a mendo striper...HILARIOUS!..amd then watching Dave come to the rescue...only to take the live rod from his dad...and land the fish...while his dad was still swimming!!! :smt008 :smt008 Father and son.

Nice rod holder install, thanks!

For now my mom seems to have assumed ownership of the Scupper, and she paddles it like an old salt!  I got her a VHF for Christmas and will keep an eye on her, because I agree it's a fairly tippy boat.  Fun to paddle, though.

She doesn't fish so for now it will remain unpimped.
