You can shell out some significant coin and sit on the beach.

Well, I wonder if this legally constitutes shore based fishing? One can only imagine the possibilities, but the price........wow!

That is so cool!  I found a video here: http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/wbs/2005/11/04/movie/tt.ram

I'm kind of a geek, that's why this is so interesting to me.  I'm also an avid R/C model plane fanatic, that is until I got into Kayak fishing :)

I just wonder what happens to the boat when it hooks a monster fish, bu-bye...  :smt044

I believe it releases the line so you can fight the fish from a rod and reel on shore. When it releases, it's homing mode kicks in and it returns to its departure point on the shore via the GPS to await another mission. It has sonar so I suppose it can find structure and fish. It would be cool if it had a jigging mode for iron and fish traps and a DFG Warden avoidance mode for fishing the MPLAs--it exchanges the line for just a practice weight and you say "Gee warden I was just practicing casting here on the shore--no hooks or lures or bait or anything. Oh, possession of gear? Well this isn't really gear for fishing Your Honor--I am practicing casting for fishing elsewhere where it is legal". Well then again, maybe that wouldn't work  but the jigging mode, now thats cool. It needs a sub suface surf launching mode too ;-)

It is very cool from a geek perspective--your own mini autonomous marine surface exploration vehicle.

This has me thinking how fun it would be to have a "sub surface" vehicle: a submarine with torpedo spears. One could sit on the beach and guide it on an underwater tour via the monitor and upon sighting a huge flattie launch the spear torpedos and then reel it in back to the beach. Crazy, but fun to let the mind wander amongst the possibilities. Yeah it's geeky, but so what.

I know some guys who already do this in the Delta. My technician (at my former job) built his own "bait transporter". I jokingly told him that with the money he spent building his gadget, he could have easily bought a used fishing kayak :smt002 But then again, if this is something that tickles your pickle, by all means go for it and have fun :smt001
