Yak Wheels

I purchased a set of  scupper pup wheels and put them to use at the elk and found out that  they were not sturdy enough for the trail to the shore.  3/4 down the trail the darn things came appart. Luckly Joe (Skyboy) was kind  enough to help me carry the yak the rest of the way.
Thanx again Joe.  After getting back to shore i headed back to camp, just me and my bag of fish, and saw Sean halling his kayak gracefully up the hill. I was amazed how smooth his set of wheels carried his craft up that trail with so little effort. So, Sean are those wheels part of your inventory for sale. If they are I would like to purchase a pair for my Prowler 15. Please let me know. Again thanx for setting -up the elk turny. My girl and I had the best time........

Hopefully you were able to get a refund on that cart. You can get some decent wheels at Home Depot. Go to the hand truck section in Gardens.

The big welded carts are an experiment that I have been working on, but had not yet considered selling them yet.  I was however very pleased with how they work.  They are kinda tough to market because they would be a beotch to ship etc, but making them break down is too time consuming and it doesnt really work with this design.  If you really want one and are willing to pick it up, I will make one for you.  SteveS was also interested.  Maybe a Mendo pick up?

For those that borrowed them, any reviews...pro or con?  Looking to improve the breed.

Sean was nice enough to let me borrow a set of his wheels for Elk.  Overall they were great!

Pros: high ground clearance, wide wheelbase, long stable horizontal supports, light weight for it's size.

Cons: It's size makes it difficult to transport,  bare metal frame rusted easily.

Comments:  I'd really consider buying one if it could fold or break apart somehow for easy transport.  I'd want a cart designed to use the black all-terrain wheels and the gray beach tires interchangeably.

Thanks Chuck.  The bare metal was just a lack of time, definitely a bad idea around salt water.  Wheel compatibility is a great idea.  I will work on an elegant way to break it down.

it was awsome.the best cart ive ever used.i carried to loaded capers up and down the hill with ease.it was like a 4 wheel drive cart

Sean..... the best suggestion I heard was from Freddie.  He suggested some sort of motor drive to assist the cart up hill.  I was envisioning some sort of remote control device.  It might be the ticket for places like Elk.  However, you'd have to design it to be water resistant and impervious to sand.

I used the same wheels as Shawn. You can buy them at Harbor Frieght for $5.99, when they're on sale. I thought Shawn's cart looked very sturdy, maybe you could get them powder coated? Good luck on your cart.

Mine is like Sean's but it is smaller and has smaller tires.  I can break it down and fit it into my hatch.  The down side is that it doesn't work on sand and it isn't as stable as a larger cart.  It gets the job done on hardpack though.  I have since added gussets for extra support and primered it.  I should try to get it powder coated.  If I get a tig welder I might make some out of aluminum or stainless.   This thing started to rust like a biznatch after 3 days of use.  Sean- any idea about the cost on getting a cart powder coated?

I paid $100.00 to get my Mountainbike frame powdered coated about  ten years ago. Just to give you an idea.

I'm guessing around 30 bucks, need to go find out for sure.  Its an industrial place so its a lot cheaper than a nice place that would do work like bike frames etc.  They did my whole trailer for 300.
