CAMPING

We will be camping at the northwest end of Lake Mendocino at a group camp site known as "Angels Camp".  This camp is not for general use so you won’t see it on any official map.  The camp has nice rolling terrain, waterfront yak parking, a few tables, and a fire ring for a nice group campfire.  The lake will be bringing in nice porta potties for the event. We will have Angels Camp Friday and Sat. nights. The group camp opens Friday at 10 AM.

The gate between the last day use lot and the beginning of the dirt road need to remained closed at all times.  If you leave camp during the day, please close it behind you!

In addition there are several gates that will appear to be locked after 10 pm each night, so pretty-super please close them behind you to keep the illusion alive or we will be asking uninvited dip-weeds to leave our camp all night.

Dogs are allowed by pre-approved permission only.  Dog owners must pick up after their dog and follow all park rules related to dogs.

DIRECTIONS

From up high...again the gates won't be locked, but will look locked.

The nitty-gritty:

TOURNEY RULES AND FORMAT:

The low water format will be back in effect for 2008. The format is as follows:

2 fish heavy limit tourney

Bait gets true weight
Artificial get 8 oz/fish
Flies get 16 oz/fish

You need to determine what method you are fishing and must tell me before you hit the water tourney day…no switching this year, you gotta make a call and stick to it.

Tourney hours are from 0600 to 300 pm

We will have a weigh boat for C&R.

Prizes for 1st-3rd, and a bonus prize for the heaviest kitty caught over the weekend.

1st prize is the legendary BAM buckle and a New Trident 11 kayak pimped for steelhead fishing with a seat, GWKC anchor setup and a deluxe PrecisionPak insulated Fish bag.

2nd will get a new Trident 11 kayak and a plaque

3rd will get an PrecisionPak YakPakIII and a plaque

Big Kitty will get a $50 and a plaque

POTLUCK

Potluck and awards Sat. night starting at 6:00 pm.  Kitty award wil be given out Sun. am so you have an extra night of bait soaking.  This year Sierra Nevada is  providing two kegs of premium microbrew.

Expect the potluck dinner to be another NCKA tailgate tour de force of outdoor cooking....get your grill on!

Unlike Elk, there is a ton of room and no attendance limit, so the more the merrier...I would love to set a NCKA record!!! We will donate a minimum of $1000 for the Ukiah Chapter of the California Striped Bass Association.  Mendo would be just another mud puddle without their hard work.

And please support the generous companies that SUPPORT these events!

Have never been back in that area of the lake. Is it just "Tent" camping or can you pull a travel trailer in the area?

Cabovers or small tent trailers are fine, gigunda-camps will not fit down the access road.  It is a sweet campground, very private and we have the whole area to ourselves.

Hey Sean, Looks like the shirt says Oct. 6. Is this the tourney date? I thought we were shooting for the 4th?

Hojo has taught me to nit-pick. :P

For those not planning to compete in the derby,  is the cost still $55?

Yeah, I don't ever remember a kayak being the second place prize! :smt007

Not that I care, but I feel like last year we paid through PayPal or am I off my rocker?

Papa Bill used to help out with PayPal but the problem was trying to track everyone down at the event to sign a waiver, and the e-waiver never made me feel good.  The old classic hardcopy in the mail is better for liability and headcount, but a bit more hassle.

As to prizes, I try and improve my tourney thing each year, but this is about as good as its ever been, 2 boats, the buckle, 3 trophies, really nice stuff from presicion pak, and cash!  Its easily $2500 worth of gear, I don't think any event up here has ever had such a fat purse.
