If you ride a bike with street tires....don't try to ride through a straw covered field.

I was helping my son's Boy Scout troop this weekend.  They were parking cars for the Pacific Coast air show.  I had my little 125 scooter out there running errands, water bottles, change etc. between the lots.  One of the lots was a field that had been mown but, the straw was left on the field for dust control.  While I was in that lot a car backed out without looking.  I turned to go around him and I must have tapped the front brake.  The front tire kicked out from under the bike faster than you can imagine.
Now I'm sitting at home for the next 6-8 weeks with a broken right collar bone.  So much for this fishing season.  I also get to sit out dove season and probably duck season.  On the up side, in a couple of weeks, I will get to make some trout flies for the next season.  Until I get back out there, keep up the fishing reports with pictures, lots of pictures.

Gah!  That really sucks, sorry to hear about your misfortune.  In 33+ years of riding a variety of motorbikes I've laid it down more times than I can recall...plenty of injuries but none as bad as yours.  Hope your recovery is swift!

Six to eight weeks sounds long for a collar bone to heal. Unless there are complications, I'm guessing you'll be doing lots of normal stuff after three weeks, and paddling a bit after a month. Best wishes!
Always willing to join others in the Monterey/Santa Cruz/Half Moon Bay area for a bit of fishing...feel free to contact me.

I feel your pain.  hang in there and get some other stuff done so you can be free to fish once you're healed.

I know, cause I'm back up after 3 months of bone-healing.....Sorry man

It's not nearly as painfull as it was.  But, the crunching and clicking are still a little creepy.  I don't think it will take as long to heal as I was told.  Maybe to heal completely but, I'll be using it as soon as it's good enough.  Definitely no shotgunning this season.  Oh well, the season wasn't that good last year.  Plus, any house work I do while crippled earns double the WAF points.

I WILL paddle at least once each month.  I have gone 20 straight months paddling at least once every month.  It is my goal to paddle every month until I take a kayaking trip in British Columbia,  in 2010.

Thanks for all the good energy pushed my way.

Major bummer Greg hope you heal fast. Team SR now has 2 on the DL. Did the BSA give first aid?

Sorry to hear the news Greg.  Ive got access to tandems if you want to ride shotgun when I finally find the time to ride some waves again.
