I tried to paste one yesterday. It would show up, but when I clicked on it, I got a message that the video was no longer available, even though it really was. Any ideas?

You most likely have it marked as private. Everyone I looked at that had problems had been marked private on Youtube. Paste the link in here and I will check it out for you.

I don't know if I can find it now.  In any case, how do you mark or unmark a link as private?

Not sure if you can do it straight from your comp.  The following is what works for me.

1.  I save the movie or video in the highest resolution (HD if possible).
2.  I download it into youtube.com.  You need to set up an account if you don't have one.
3.  After youtube said that it is successful and can be viewed they will give you a link.  Copy and paste that web (URL) link into your post.
