Kaneohe Bay 3-21 late post/no luck
« on: March 27, 2008, 12:22:56 pm »

Launched near Coconut Island at 8am.
Followed pylons toward outer reef, towing frozen opelu.
Knew wind was coming.

Paddled around in awe at color of the water, the warmth, the mountains, and the rest of it all.

Got one massive strike by tower 23, while rod was in holder. It was over before I knew it. One savage bite. Hung out for a bit. Couldn't buy another bite after that.

Went further out to reef. Wind came through. Chop was pretty nasty. A lot of paddling to get back in. Felt great. Fun day.

Alex, I recomend checking out the rig in the attached link, I improved my hookup ratio drastically when I went to circle hooks with wire.  Mahi are starting to hit mainly on the north shore, but I have heard of one guy getting one on the east side.  I might get out this sunday if the weather holds I will post if I do.  I have had good luck with hook up out by Mokumanu island off the tip of the Marine Corps base.  There are some buoys out there that hold fish.

Good luck

Ed
