After purchasing and personalizing my new to me (slightly used) Marauder with different more angled rod holders, installed numerous strap eyes, Fishfinder and transducer etc., I found that it does not fit in the space I formally used for (and apparently still do) storing my Scrambler.  After observing the angle at which the Marauder likes to lay on its beam I build the following rack out of scrap lumber and carpet.  The vertical posts go about 3.5 feet into the ground and the rack is self supporting although the top corners of the upper angled pieces are very close to the wall, they allow a tarp to be pulled between them and the wall.  I plan to lay down some gravell and install a hose bib connected to the plumbing inside the walll so that I can rinse off my yak nearby.

But that was not enough, a creative whim caught my fancy and I found some spray paint for plastic and several rolls of blue masking tape.  That along with years of pumpkn carving experience and this is what I ended up with on the bottom of my kayak.  It kind of ended up with an inuit feel and is intended as a good omen/protector from the landlord and also a joke.  I hope that PK has the vertical rack for his car so that I can show it off all the way to Shelter Cove.

Thanks for the complements.  Especially Z, I know you are a pro and it means a lot.  Got to have a creative outlet for times when one can not get out fishing.  :smt003  I have fun with the odd project now and then.

Adam, I used Krylon Spray Paint for plastic and lots of blue tape.  I first cleaned it well using Simple Green and water.  I was careful with the tape and did not want to cut it on the yak surface and leave razor marks so some of my edges are not as clean as would be ideal.  For the big part of the eye, I used contact paper and cut out a large piece to use for masking, this worked well for the tight round corners on the large surface.  I also had a few places where the kayak finish was too smooth and the paint pealed up with the tape.  In areas where I sanded lightly with 600 grit paper the paint stuck better but it did dull the yak surface a little.  My mistake was to do the sanding after the taping so it did not effectively get right to the edge of my design.  I expect that it will peal off some over time and if and when I redo it or do it again I will know better.  Have fun.

Thats what I was wondering about... if that *new KRYLON plastic paint was gonna do the job...but it sounds like it will peel off as easy as the regular sprayed paint....and when it gets pulled off by the blue tape, that's a whole nother project.
myHULLmyBEalreadyPREP'DforPAINTaddhersion..as is! :smt044 lots of scratches!

scratches are good.  The pealing only happened in the near new surfaces without any scratches and that is where the tape/paint peal happened.  In other areas it was fine and I presume better than regular spray paint.

Funny you'd mentioned this. I was thinking of doing a paint job myself and bought a can to test out on the yak. Like you said it did peel w/o preparation but w/ a light sanding at actually held pretty well. It's not perfect but I haven't seen anything come even close to what this paint can do.
