I just got a call from Joel "Mooch".  He's still on the beach with Mike "Sturgy" as of 8pm .

Mike just landed a 5 ft long, 20#  thresher the battled him for over 45 minutes on 12# test.  He was mooching for salmon went it hit.

Stay tune for details and pics.

Mike AKA sturgy hooks into a 20 lb thresher.  Here is the pic, I'm sure he will post more details later.

Is it just me or does the "face" of a thresher look like Jimmy Durante?

LMFAO!  Durante all the way.  "Good night, Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are."

No one needs to justify anything to anybody else, and I'm really jealous a t-shark was caught.  But please say there was no way that thing was going to make it after 45 minutes on the line.  It just looks like a pup t-shark (but a tasty one).  I'm really not flaming anybody or busting anyone's balls.  just an observation.

greek swordfish ... yum.

Beautiful fish.

Sad to see it kept. But by all means congratulations

Looks like you gutted the gills to bleed out? Should make some great steaks on the BBQ.

Congrats Mike.  12lb test is IMPRESSIVE!!

I've heard a lot break/cut the line with their tail when they are swimming away during the fight.

We landed a 7 footer on the troll a long time ago.  It tried to swat the bait and was snagged in the tail.

On the table, it was OK if I remember correctly.  Little dry similar to butt, but a little harder texture.  No bones to deal with, just two dime sized dark spots in the steaks to eat around.

PS, was this the fish your brother lost last year???

Perhaps, it was overcooked. My experience was different.  It was very moist, tender, and tasty.

Congrats on the Thresher, I have seen a few jump out there lately so I figured it was a matter of time.  Great Job.

By the way my two year old son loved the picture of the shark but he nearly soiled his diaper when he saw Jimmy Durante. Hmmm. :smt001

Congrats to Mike!

Mike and I were concerned about how we were going to subdue the shark  :smt104 but Mike did a phenom job playing out the fish till it could no longer function  :smt095 ...it made it a lot easier for me to grab it's tail and pull it on board.

Mike - After watching you battle it for 45 min....You truly deserve that catch  :smt023  Yu da man!  :worship  :worship  :worship

I forgot to mention: I had caught a small spiny dog fin shark (before Mike got the Thesher)....and I got stung by it  :smt092  and it got me real good  :smt013  I called our marine biologist friend - Scwafish Sean -  later in the evening to see if I needed to be concerned about the wound....Sean just told me to clean it well because of the bacteria hanging around the spine. ......as I'am looking at it right now, the wound has swollen to the size of a quarter and I seem to be able to smell raw meat and blood from the local safeway-  5 blocks away.....I'm also having a hard time breathing in air ......and I feel this dire need to take a swim in the Bay.....hmmmm  :smt017

oh...and my co-worker just noticed that my teeth look sharp  :smt087
