When I was a kid, I filled a bunch of balloons with hydrogen and attached notes to them. A hunter found one of them over 100 miles from my house and sent me a letter.

That's really cool.

When I was a kid, I filled a bunch of balloons with hydrogen and attached notes to them. A hunter found one of them over 100 miles from my house and sent me a letter.
I did something similar as a kid. Growing up on a farm we had natural gas lines in the chicken houses, for heaters. One day at the store I bought an expensive 25 cent super-balloon, and tried to fill it with gas. The line pressure was so low it wouldn't inflate. So I blew up the balloon manually, almost passing out (it was over 24" diam.). That stretched the balloon out enough to be inflated with the gas line. I then wrote a note with a self addressed stamped envelope and let it go one summer day. Around 2 weeks later I received  a very nice letter from a family who found it floating in their yard. It had gone around 40miles over the local hills into the next county. I'm glad they weren't smokers! :smt002
