Michael and Scott,

When Scott said he was bringing a surprise, I was only wishing for Man Dawgs.  Scott, I as teasing.  We would probably all be getting off the water at different times to partake.

I guess Chuck spilled the beans. I am bringing man dawgs and beer if folks are interested in a shore lunch at hetch hetchy at 1230. I think we have Michael, Janice, Chuck, Doug and Scott so far.

I'm sorry Scott.  Sounds like a Melones reunion.

Count Yellowboat in also.

Sweet, what should I bring?  I'm not good at this type of thing.  Buns, chips, salsa, guacamole?  Any and all ideas welcome.

Told the wife this morning that Sunday was going to be a dark to dark fishing trip.  Not sure how long everybody else plans on being out there.

I was thinking I might try Heron Bay down by the damn.  Better water clarity and reports lately have said the fishing has been decent.  Although it all depends on the troll down there.  If I get into them, I may never make it. :smt003

Grizz, did my picture help at all?  Hope so.  I don't mind you checking out the actual set-up Sunday.

BTW, is it Sunday yet? :smt044  :smt009

Oh yeah, and Sunday's high is supposed to by 51. :cold  Dress warm ladies and gentlemen.  Partly cloudy and 20% chance of rain.  Layers, layers, layers.

I know that Chuck and Janice have some inside joke about fishing with ice on thier yaks, luckily it won't be that cold!

Hopefully this doesn't scare anybody away.

Sorry we are going to miss you Fishin-Jay and Northern Boy.  Maybe next time.  Let us know how you did so we know what worked, or more importantly, what didn't work.

More importantly? I think you mean more likely.

Good luck to all. Will try and report on Saturday night.

If I don't get a chance to post anything Saturday night you can probably just assume it went like this: went fishing, got cold and tired, caught nothing, had a great time, will be doing it again as soon as I can.

Here are two fishing reports from Thursday at DV.  A report of a 16lb trout.  Yikes.  Some people doing well near the damn - which further fuels my desire to make it that far - and others near the end of the narrows.

Hopefully by the time Sunday roles around the bite is still on AND more importantly, there are still fish in the lake. :smt003  :smt002   Man I wish I could go tomorrow. :smt010  :smt013

If folks want to head up to the dam, we can have our shore lunch in that area. There are no picnic tables but there are some nice beaches. I have fished Herron Bay a few times and it seems better for soaking bait than for trolling.

I've never made it up that far.  I'm not putting at o-dark-30 so I don't know if I can make it to Herron by noon-30.

I got some worms in case I do get up there.

When I was there on the 2nd, I made it from Heron Bay to the launch ramp in about 40 minutes.  I was haulin' a$$ though - averaging a little over 3.5 mpg.  It was about 4:15 and several boats started going in and for the life of me I couldn't figure out why they were leaving and then the light bulb came on - dummy, the park closes at dark.

So I'm guessing that a steady troll of about 1.5 mph would get somebody to Heron Bay in about an hour and a half, provided you didn't catch any fish because that would slow you down. :smt003

I'm flexible.  Heron Bay can be another day.  Although maybe we divide and conquer to figure out where the fish are?

Does this mean you're carrying a gas stove with you in the yak along with man dogs?

Wish I could join the party, but I have a busy weekend. Fishing should be good. I still have to get a trout on a troll at that lake.

Good luck and hopefully the reports will be excellent results

I do have a small gas grill which I got for xmas. one of my goals this year is to perfect the man dog.  :smt003 It doesn't take too long to get to the dam if you are not trolling. I usually only fish till 1PM and make it up there and back without problems and that includes trolling 50% of the way and about 30 minutes of LMB fishing. I think if the water clarity is poor, the narrows and the dam would be better for trolling. For bait soaking, around the launch area is usually good. They planted 1,200 pounds of trout on 1/14/08 so there should be a few left on Sunday. :smt003

Definitely not a bait soaker.  I'd rather smell like skunk than plop some dough on a hook and wait twittling my thumbs.  Now, I will throw out a line while I'm eating lunch.  That's another story.

Is it Melones or Del Valle?  I just skimmed the thread and got a little lost.  Ariane and I will be headed to Del Valle Sunday--will prob arrive around mid-morning.  Hope to finally get to meet some of you guys.
