Again, XSquid, 152 Sumo, and I tried without much success to catch a BIG delta LMB on Saturday.  We all caught our share of little ones though.  Sumo was first on fish, with the one and only fish on a frog in the early morning dawn.  XSquid and I had our share of opportunities though, with over a dozen topwater blowups on our frog offerings.  My first fish of the day was this small crappie.  As you can tell by the picture (pic1...I wasn't trying to be rude, but my finger slipped  :smt003), I wasn't too happy to get it instead of a nice big bass.  XSquid and Sumo both got bit on senkos, later XSquid added a fish or two on the jig, and Sumo got some on the crank.  I was able to crank up a fair number of bass throughout the day, with the biggest being this one (pic2) just a bit bigger than 3 pounds.  XSquid and I both missed our opportunities at a bass over 5 pounds by losing them at the boat.  Despite the lack of BIG bass, it was fun fishing with you guys again.

Sunday, I launched out of Tracy Oasis and tried the southeast delta for a change.  I managed to catch a few cats on crankbaits (pic3), and missed a big cat.  He clobbered my lure, took line out instantly, and dove straight down.  When the lure popped off, my line was coated with 12 to 15 inches of slime, yuk!  I also was able to crank up 3 healthy bass, the largest one was a bit over two pounds (pic4), and the others were 1.2 and 1.7 pounds.  The launch was expensive at $10, but the water looked bassy down there.  Word is that it is also a striper hot spot in the winter.  Can't wait for that.

Have fun out there, and be safe next weekend if you go out.

Gotta love the Freudian finger slip on the 1st pic!  :smt044 Was that crappie or crappy...?

Glad to see you got out there & harassed the bass (and cats) again.

I don't think I'll go anywhere near the delta next weekend...

Another great report and pics - nice work, Bryan.

Love the checkery-blue on the crappie - they MUST be related to blue rockfish...

As for Tracy Oasis, have you ever thought of launching in the Old River (along the road path) and then paddling out to the GLC?   I remember when I went through there last year there were a couple of spots along the road that looked like they could work as a decent launching spot.

Bassmanben--thanks for the options...I have thought about a commando launch from various locations, but not sure of my car's security along a lonely levee road (pic1).  If it was a short day trip, I'd do it.  But most of my trips are 5-8 hours or longer.

I hope who ever it was that did that damage to that car has the same thing happen to their own vehicle. If that was my car I'd wish upon them a life changing, face disfiguring, bloody car accident!

That is so freaking senseless.

I keep noticing that you are fishing for big bass when the tide is out. That is the toughest time to catch a moe. The beauty of the delta is no matter what time you go to fish there, somewhere it is HIGH TIDE. I used to chase the flood tide with my bass boat, just by moving about 25 river miles, it would be so much faster via truck and kayak.

Here is a GOOGLE EARTH link I made and I keep adding to that has most of the marinas I like and the tide/watercondition measuring stations on the delta. If you have installed Google Earth on your computer, just click on the link and it will open in GE temporary places. When you close GE, it will ask if you want to save your temporary places, click yes. It will not work or open if you don't have GOOGLE EARTH.

Wow, hope that wasnt your car.  There are quite a few people who fish the Old river in the fall - I would hope if enough people are out then it wouldn't happen.  Someday I'll get my yak and that will be one of the first places I try.

bassmanben and Arielc...that was not my car or anyone I knew...I was just driving along looking for fishing spots and decided that spot would not be a good spot to park and yak.  It was probably a stolen car, but there are a few people out there who can't be trusted, so I am cautious.

troutnut...thanks for the google tip.  I didn't see a link on your post, but I know what you are talking about.  High tide rules.  I just fish when I can, and target early mornings/evenings.  If the tide is up, it is a bonus.  I have not done too badly on the incoming tide, but outgoing is much better.
