Not much to report.  The wind was out of control.  I was marking a lot of fish on rocky ledges and the edges of weeds, but no luck.  I got pretty excited when I saw a monster LMB cruise right under the kayak and inspect my drop-shot rig.  I should have known not to get excited about that since they say that if you can see the bass, of course it can see you and it wont bite.

I was out there Sunday trying mostly for bass, but got nothing til I was headed back, hooked a trout off the island trolling a Super Duper Magnum with a split shot.  It was VERY windy at times, but the quiet, peaceful lulls made up for it.

I saw a guy onshore reel in three trout as fast as he could cast out his line.

It was the same Saturday.  By the time I got back to Bass Cove, there were nice periods of calm in between the wind.

Tough love from Chabot is ALL I KNOW!   :smt009
...don't forget to try BASS COVE too!.....I think they named it that because it LOOKS like there might be a FISH in the area...MAYBE?  :smt013

that's a hard lake to pull good-sized LMB from.......I can only do it in the winter/spring from the tullies.  :smt012

thanks for the report and I'll be there when the water cools way down....to cast my lures into Bass Cove ONE MORE TIME!   just in case there in a fish there. :smt002

There is definitely bass in Bass Cove.  I saw a monster right under my yak in about 10 feet of water.  It was frustrating.  It was staring right at my drop shot without biting.  What a tease!

I tried your tullies most of the day, Adam...  Every other cast I was thinking, "If there's no bass there, there's no bass in this lake"...  sure looks fishy.  Nada.

But in the main part of the lake, where there's supposed to be no fish, I saw lots of trout on the ff...  but I don't think I was deep enough.

I know this may go against some Purist Bass Fisherman but I'll tell youthis = it works!
I was with ChuckE at Chabot and Stevens Creek and we both faced the same scenerio. I had a senko and Chuck had a fly lined night crawler. I presented my senko first and slowly worked the area. We both could clearly see the big bass. Chuck then pitches his live nightcrawler and within seconds, he hooked up! Try this next time and you'll get 'em  :smt045

After this advice and the results of BAM III, I think I need to try live bait for a while.  I can save $$$$ since I am buying Yamamoto stuff from Walton's Pond just about every week.  I need to go back to how I learned to fish when I was a kid: NIGHTCRAWLERS. They catch everything.

Amen brother :smt002 Nothing beats "God's all purpose bait = The mighty night Crawler"  :smt003

Just remember to keep your night crawlers happy = leave them on ice all day (use a small cooler) :smt045 And use 'em whole and not cut up. The livelier they are on the hook, the better it is  :smt002 Oh, and hook 'em on the sex collar - it's the toughest part of worm.

Good try Eric!  but i've NEVER had any but smaller ones hit during warmer water temps(not to much sucessful experiences going deep, YET) best/easier in the colder times, for me....as and for those mid-depth marks on the FF, i find them alot there and evey lake i hunt and CAN'T FIGURE why the hell they won't follow the RULES?!  :smt013

I too, have had that happen to me along the dam side, I was trying to be SUPER STEALTHY and creep along the shoreline to an area where i could hide and toss. I flipped a senko a few times to the right and while retrieving, i looked on my left and saw a 10lb'r+ just sitting there watching me choke on my heart.

we'll get one of those to fall for something one of these days!   IT WILL HAPPEN!!

I think it is the clear water that makes the bass picky at Chabot.  The water there seems to be clearer than Del Valle.  Shadow cliffs is the same for me: clear water, plenty of HUGE bass, and I only catch the little youngsters.
