Thanks for the shirt sizes.

PAL, logistics question.  How should we bring all this stuff (yak accessories & dive gear) aboard?

I'll tell you how I do it. Storage isn't exactly short, but the clutter can be a hassle. Kayaks go in the rack bare, or nearly so. I put my seat, PFD, hand pump, and other kayaking gear in the hull. Rods go in the boat's rod racks. Tackle, I bring an oversized bag that I use to replenish kayak supplies. A crate or stackable tub should work well for dive gear.

Is this in addition to a waterproof headlamp? Are you talking about a light for the kayak, the kind on a little pole that is seen 360 degrees?

No, not an addition. Headlamp is great - if you have something even brighter, consider bringing it along.

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

Yes please, still mail it to my address. The postal service is holding our mail. Since our area is not under an evacuation order, service should resume soon, although I believe the nearest distribution center was out of action for the past couple of days.

Paul

Mailed my check yesterday. let me know if you don't get it by Saturday. Sorry about the delay, was out of town for a week. Hope all is well, my son son who lives in SD had to come home because his asthma was acting up and they closed UCSD. BTW, I know I already thanked you, but I do appreciate you giving us this opportunity to hammer some pelagics.

If you still want to carpool, PM me so we can figure out how to get all this stuff into my SUV.

The USPS dropped by today, bringing several letters. I'm sure more are on the way. Some were packed up ready to roll to a safer zone. It will take me a day or two to sort through that jumbled mess. I'll post those I've received so you'll know I have it. Please let me know if I've missed your payment.

Paul,

I mailed my $505 over a week ago.  The check was dated 10/11 but I am sure it took a day or two for me to mail it.  An sign of it?  Do you need me to send another check for $15 or can I just cover that when I get there?  Thanks for the reports.
Etienne

Etienne, I have it, please don't worry. Also, Danglin's arrived today in a huge mail delivery. I think it must have been all my back mail from the past week. Thanks guys.

If you have IOU by your name, you overpaid $15 / person because I originally posted an incorrect total. I'll get you on trip day.

Guys...if you have not paid please do so ASAP.  PAL needs to get the rest of the $ to the boat and we can't afford to front it, this is a non-profit endeavor.  Thanks!!!

Report update. The Freedom out of 22nd St Landing is scheduled to hit the Cortez tomorrow, the 4th, the 7th, and the day our trip departs. We'll have fresh intel. As I get word, I'll post up here. Looking back, what had been an albie bite a month ago turned into all-out action on big yellowtail. The yellows are in all liklihood still there. Bluefin are still a possibility (especially for we sneaky yakkers) but they haven't shown much in the counts in the past few weeks.

Kayak yellows... it doesn't get much better.

After a bit more searching, I found one more recent report. There was some snotty weather at the Cortez about a week back. Looks like it rolled the water. Not to worry too much about the rockfish in the count. That boat only had one day to fish, unlike us. Also, conditions will improve if the weather is stable.

From 976-TUNA.com, posted Monday about a trip that fished last Friday:

Quote
We ran to the Cortez Bank out of Davey's Locker on the Tide Change for a 1.5 day HUNT for Big Yellowtail. The water cooled way down to 60 degrees and no yellows were metered or caught. WE DID catch BAG FULLS of big Bonito to 14lbs, monster Sheephead, Whitefish, Reds a few Lings and Cabazon. ALL TASTY FISH!

Time for a sleigh ride!!!!

All of you coming on the trip, I know it said tips included, and I may be preaching to teh choir on this, but . . . These guys are going to be working their butts off for us.  They typically don't make a ton as far as salary & rely on fish cleaning fees & tips.  If their service rocks let's make sure they are taken care of.
