cell phone reception offshore
« on: September 29, 2007, 06:13:29 pm »
My cell phone disappeared and it's time to decide whether to stick with verizon or switch to att which seems to have some advantages

With verizon I've had calls 5 miles straight out from Stinson and I'm wondering if att is as good Also verizon has an h20 proof phone that looks interesting

Anybody like att?

thanks, pablo aka high and dry

For a company (ATT/Cingular) that keeps advertising the least number of dropped calls, I was dropping calls even while standing out in the middle of the street. I switched to Verizon and have not dropped a call yet. Also, if you're one day late in paying your bill, ATT charles up to $8 late fee...ditto for any other phone services they offer.

I have cingular/att.  My reception on land in and around pacifica is pretty bad.  Also, all along hwy 1 between the ritz and wadell creek reception is non existent.  I am able to make calls from about a mile offshore with no problems in that same areas though.

All will drop calls occasionally but I've had the best coverage by far with Verizon.

Mooch! How's the fishing?

It's looking like verizon is best on the water, I've had calls 5 miles out from stinson and I think 4 out from pedro and probably got calls at Pigeon Pt cant remember

since I don't carry a radio the cell might be good for something

the h20 proof phone verizon has looks good hopefully I can give it the saltwater test sometime soon

I do not get reception at Bean Hollow, except for certain areas on the water, and only briefly.  That's about the only spot I've encountered having trouble getting reception since I switched for some reason.

Unfortunately, I do get cell phone reception at Bean Hollow.  Just ask my wife... :smt011  Just playin'.

I called her this past sunday after I bagged my ling limit and to share how nice the conditions were.  Big mistake.  Not one hour later, it turned GNARLY!!!  Celebrating the weather in the middle of a decent bite is the best way to jinx myself!

I'm on ATT Wireless, and my phone is a ghetto ass samsung that my dog has thoroughly chewed, so nothing special equipment-wise
Searching for fish I am.
Eat them I will.

Verizon gives you 30 days to change your mind about going with their service or sticking with a particular phone. I'm sure the other outfits do too.

I think its the law but don't quote me on this.

Wish I had found this thread sooner as I just signed up for service through AT&T.  May have to double dip with AT&T and Verizon and then exercise the 30-day return option on one of 'em.

You could be right about the law being 15 days but I know that AT&T also has the 30-day 100% return policy.  I asked before I signed my life away for 2 years.   :smt009
