I know there is a following (almost cult like) of the Scupper Pro's.  I'm hearing strong rumors that Ocean Kayak might be doing a limited run.  If we could get some to the Bay Area, is there anyone here who would seriously consider buying one?  Or perhaps even be willing to pre-order one?  Let me know here and I'll pass the info on to the powers that be and see what we can do.

I assume this would have the tank well version and not the hatch?

I think it's the TW version, but I'll have to confirm.

It probably won't happen here unless we have some pull through from the dealers and they'll "pull through" if we can show some interest.  If it doesn't happen here, the yaks are targeted to go to SoCal, so you can always try to get one from down there.

Why were the boats discontinued if they have such a following?

I don't know the whole story so I can only guess.  I could be completely wrong.

Molds are expensive and like all things, will wear out over time.  I'm guessing that the molds were reaching the end of their shelf like and couldn't be used to maintain full production without laying out the big bucks to make another set.  So it may have been an economic decision ... demand was waning, other products were filling the gap, and new mold were not made.  I think they may have "warmed up" the molds lately and determined they could do a limited run and still produce a quality product with them ... again, for a limited run, but not for full mass production, meaning the engineers believed they could produce 100 more with high quality, but not 1000 more.  Again, I could be wrong, so don't hold me to this.

IMO: if you have an ass that fits this kayak comfortably = get one! It's light to carry, fast and furious  :smt045

I have one (double hatch version - one of the first ones made by Tim Neimer) that I loan out for smaller people / kids and some lady friends...the only problem that I have with it...it's "pink" in color  :smt011 I got it cause it was super cheap.

If they come up with a double hatch in any other color than pink, I want one  :smt045

Granted, I haven't paddled anything else, but I know it has a lot of "get up 'n' go," easy to maintain cruise speed, great glide, and is tremendously stable and fun to paddle in tight and heavy seas.  Huge front hatch.  Large and easily accessible tankwell.  Not excessively but still plenty riggable.  More comfortable with seat scupper holes plugged.   MSRP $689 is(was) $100 cheaper than the regular store price of a P13.

I got used to the "tippy feeling" and it's stable as all get-out to me.   I think it's a "sportscar" of yaks, not so much a "family sedan" of yaks.  And it loves to drive in tight and tricky environments, much the same way.

It is the only kayak CHUB has ever used and he can keep up with the best of them in any conditions.
