Folks, if you've got a quick and simple rigging tip that pays off big time in improved kayak fishability, and you'd like to share it with the 70,000 readers of Western Outdoor News, please drop me a PM. You'll get full credit for your idea.

I have a quick turn-around on this kayak fishing story - it goes to bed Friday afternoon.

Examples of the tricks that have already made the grade include replacing hook-catching carrying handles, tweaking a hatch, hard-mounting a ruler, etc. Simple, inexpensive, and effective if not necessarily impressive.

Thanks!

Paul

While I don't have time to write the article, you might consider an article on one of two anchor rigs that NCKAers have developed.

Probably the most appealing is the river anchor setup that Sean et.al. have perfected for fishing steelhead in the rivers.

The other is the quick anchor release that Tote actually came up with and that many (self included) have adopted for sturgeon fishing.

I'd love to see the anchor release, especially if it has universal application. Does it make sense to use with a kelp anchor?

Broadcasting some tricks gives me pause. Anything that is more hazardous than the kayak fishing standard, that can get a newb in real peril has to be carefully considered. I think it's better to point people in a certain direction but let them connect the dots themselves if they have the skill and gumption to go after it.

If I ever write about Sean's river adventures - not likely, because to me it seems pressure sensitive - I think I would either omit mention of anchoring OR stress the hazard of tying yourself down in moving water.

For this story I'm looking for quick, easy and effective little tweaks or rigging tricks that almost anyone would benefit from.

Thanks!

Paul~

I like this idea for inexpensive new carry handles:

Wish I had time to write an article proper.

I can't seem to find the link for that one.

Those are sweet DIY handles, gorgeous work. Thanks for posting them Tote.

:smt001 Some writer I am. If my original posting was unclear, I apologize. I'm not asking for your completed article, just a simple rigging idea you don't mind sharing.

Only thing I have to contribute is mounting a stick on ruler to your paddle - sometimes it's easier to move the ruler to the fish than vice-versa.  Also, and this may seem really basic, don't drill until you are absolutely sure of where you want something mounted.
