Sweet, but I don't think they closed the ramp because of water levels.  I think they did it for other safety reasons like the prospect of having 50+ kayak anglers/newbie fly fishermen trying to gain those extra 8 bonus ounces at BAMIII.  Although I must admit to a bit of schadenfreude at the prospect of witnessing someone accidentally nailing a wake boarder with a Lefty's deceiver on their back swing.

Why is the water level so low? Do they pull the plug on the lake occasionally, like they do at Lexington Reservoir?

Why is the water level so low?

I will un-bite my tongue for this brief moment about it:  they're finally starting to follow the mandate that keeps a little more water in the Eel River...   :smt012  I dig the cool details of Mendo, but it's unfortunate that it's almost entirely Eel River water.  (does this one get switched to the "political" forum now?...)

Have a good tournee, and congrats on getting some of the wavehoarders out of the way.   :smt001

While Eel River cutbacks have played a role, it has been this way prior to cutbacks.  This year the cutbacks coupled with a dry spring have hammered the lake.

Lake Mendo is small, and has essentially no carry-over storage from year to year.  In addition, its primary function is flood control, so it must be maintained with freeboard until the end of the flood season.  If we would have held the floods of Jan 1., it would still be full...but we have to dump them in case there is a flood in Feb. If we don't get rain in the spring,  which we didn't, it ends up looking like this.

So are the stripers there all stockers, rather than a resident population?
