Anyone ever kayak fished those lakes?  I have a three day weekend and thinking about hitting one if them up. Never been to either. From google maps it looks like easy access for lake alpine but not sure about Kent lake.

You can bike down to Kent from the Alpine Dam. Theres some huge LMB in that lake . Its illegal to fish down below the dam. About two miles down you should hit the lake. It super steep from the maintenance road to the water. If you keep going on the road it will come down level with the lake then eventually come to Sir Francis Drake rd. Its kind of cold now but we used to get fish on spinners and top water plugs during the warm months.

Yes. No kayak fishing there. No Boats. Or swimming. Or dogs in the water either.

Alpine ....no gas engines....one of my favorites..keep in mind most campgrounds close in Oct up there in the Bear valley it`s +7000 ft sometimes they close the road just before the " resort" across from Alpine ..might want to call up the bait and tackle in either Arnold or Murphy just my .02 cents

`ve kayaked in there ...they have canoe and kayak rentals during the season...even used a float tube....  unless somethings changed...

Lake Alpine Fishing - Sierra Nevada Fishing

Fly Fishing the SierrasLake Alpine has some of the best fishing around. The Lake is planted with trout regularly from Memorial Day through Labor Day. You'll find a mixture of wild holdover and rainbow trout.

Lake Alpine is truly a fishing paradise with the scenic reservoir at an elevation of 7350 feet and covering 180 acres at a depth of 40 feet. There is easy lake access that includes a paved section that is handicapped accessible.

A speed limit of 10 mph is in effect on Lake Alpine. The lake is a favorite of anglers fishing from float tubes, canoes and kayaks. Motor boats, rowboats, canoes and kayaks are available for rental from the Resort.

No fee is required for launching a boat at the U.S. Forest Service launch ramp.

No overnight mooring is permitted, and motorized boats are not allowed on the lake at night.

You can purchase your fishing licenses online at CDFW (click here).

For more information on fishing times and limits, contact the California Department of Fish & Wildlife.
Visit Lake Alpine for a truly enjoyable Sierra Nevada Fishing experience.

You can also give Bon Tempe a shot for trout (planted) and bass. Very easy access there.

You can also hike UP to Kent Lake from the parking lot off of sir francis Drake near the inkwells near Samuel P Taylor Park.
The creek you follow is famous for spawning salmon in season.

Hey SuperBoring, kinda straying from you original topic, but if you want to get out there for a hike and some trout from shore, here's some quick info...

I have fished Alpine, Bon Tempe and Lagunitas quite a bit. Have not had a ton of luck at Alpine, but was not specifically targeting bass. (They say frog patterns work well down there) I was looking for trout. They do not stock Alpine anymore, but have heard they are still in there. Bon Tempe and Lagunitas are stocked. Lagunitas is no bait, single hook, barbless to my knowledge. Bon Tempe allows bait, etc. No yaks as others have mentioned. Upper parking lot in btw Lag and BT is the ticket. I have caught trout in Bon Tempe on kastmasters, little cleo's and panther martins from the shore, but power bait is the ticket if you want to take fish home. A lot of planters this time of year. White meat. That said, they still taste great and occasionally you'll pick up a hold over with the pink. Mouse tails and some scent on a 2+ foot leader, carolina rigged is the ticket. Attached a pic of a recent stringer from earlier in the month.

@ TamFish

Thanks for the trout recommendation on those lakes!  I've been hunting for a winter trout experience closer to home.  I thought most waters were closed until April?
Fish laugh when I paddle by.  Sometimes they laugh so hard they fall on my hook.

@Snakecharmer

Lagunitas Creek, between Kent and Alpine is closed this time of year. Opens at the end of April through Nov 15. Please check the regs though, I don't want to pass along outdated or incorrect info. All other streams and creeks on Marin Muni Water Dist lands are closed to fishing year round. The lakes I mentioned (reservoirs) are open year round, but some have specific regs, like Lake Lagunitas. All prohibit water craft of any type and wading.

Just a fun day of hiking, exploring and fishing. I've always wanted to launch a yak in there, but it's just not gonna happen.

Good luck,

Josh

HEY SBH, There are also smallmouth bass in Bon Tempe I recomend targeting those suckers as they are way more fun to fight than those little planters they stock it with. you will have to do it from shore though, I havent been there in many years but I believe no boat allowed! throw Panther martin spinners for the smallies there they use to crush em!
